Maghound: The Netflix of Magazines

Maghound is an online membership service that allows you to choose, change, and manage all the magazines delivered to your home. Just like with Netflix, you pick the magazines you want delivered each month. Unlike a regular magazine subscription, which requires you to commit for a certain period of time, Maghound members are charged on a monthly basis based on the number of magazines selected.

There are 3 tiers of memberships:
  • Tier 1: 3 magazine titles: $4.95/month

  • Tier 2: 5 magazine titles: $7.95/month

  • Tier 3: 7 magazine titles: $9.95/month

  • Tier 3+: 8 or more magazine titles: extra $1 each/month

Check out the site to see which magazines are included with your membership. Maghound carries over 100 titles, however some of your favorites may not be included just yet (Us Weekly!!!)

The Twilight Journals

My husband forwarded me an e-mail he got from Borders telling him about a new Stephenie Meyer release called the Twilight Journals. He thought this would be of interest to me since I'm a big Twilight fan. What he doesn't seem to understand is that I am a Robert Pattinson fan, not a Twilight fan...big difference.

This new marketing ploy is a set of four journals in the Twilight-theme for people (OK, girls) to use to write down their "thoughts and dreams, stories and secrets". You know the Twilight moms are going to be buying this so that they'll have some place to store all that dirty fan-fic they've been dreaming up (not me, I swear).

The set of four journals can be pre-ordered at Borders.com for $17.49. They will be available on Oct 13th (my birthday! what a coincidence.)

P.S. I give Stephenie Meyer an "F" for originality on this one...does she really need to steal yet another concept from The Vampire Diaries?

The Art of Coloring

When I was little I used to color all the time...my grandmother would buy me lots of coloring books that would keep me occupied for hours. So I did a little search to see if coloring books have evolved since the 80's and boy have they ever! Here are some companies that sell unique coloring books. Not only are these books beautiful, but they will open up your child's mind (or yours) to something beyond a Disney character.

Dover Publications sells a bunch of coloring books with themes from modern art to world history. Each page has a caption on it which allows your child to learn about what they are coloring. Plus you can't beat the price of these books. They range from $3.95 to $6.99!

As per their website: MindWare is an innovative company dedicated to creating “Brainy Toys for Kids of All Ages.” The site carries a nice selection of fun coloring books.

This by far was one of my favorite finds! These coloring books are so unique because they allow the child to not only color, but to draw in the heads, arms, and legs thereby using their imagination to create their own characters. The books are constructed with thick pages to avoid showing through or damaging the pictures on the next page. The company is based in the UK but you can buy the books on Amazon.

This is what an unfinished page looks like:
And this is what it can look like with a little creativity:

A Reason to Write About Robert Pattinson

Us Weekly has published a special, limited-edition magazine called The Sexy Stars of Twilight. I found out about this from a daily newsletter I get from the magazine (I swear I didn't go searching for this). The magazine is full of photos of the stars and behind-the-scenes info. It also includes seven pull-out posters...five of which include Robert Pattinson (shocker).

Also, New Moon, the second book in the Twilight series, has been re-released with a new cover featuring the stars from the movie.

Both of these items would be perfect if you are looking for a gift for a tween, teen, or um...adult who is obsessed with Twilight (OK, yes that does include me).
